A small number of things, made well.
We do not scale up to grow. We grow by learning the next thing, and only the next thing.
We began as a correspondence between two friends who shared a taste for slow work. That conversation grew, in time, into a small studio — still led by hand, still answering letters directly. We are not a platform, and we have no plans to become one. We make work we would like to receive, and we send it out with the same care we would hope for in return.
A first letter, sent between two friends.
A small studio is formed, by hand and by correspondence.
A handful of projects, taken on one at a time.
A slower tempo, kept on purpose.
Each project begins with a long letter, not a brief. We read it, we answer in kind, and we agree on a small number of things to make — usually three, sometimes fewer. We share drafts in plain text, we leave time between rounds, and we close the book when the work is done.
We do not scale up to grow. We grow by learning the next thing, and only the next thing.
Every agreement is in writing. Every decision is in plain English. We keep our own copy of each one.
We leave room between drafts — for the work to settle, for us to read it again with fresh eyes.
When the work is done, we close the book. We do not retain what is not ours to keep.
